Heroin addiction starts out as a recreational drug. After using heroin for a period of time the body becomes dependent on it with physical dependency. Heroin users become prisoners of the drug and suffer serious and painful withdrawal. Heroin withdrawal effects the respiratory, circulatory and central nervous systems.  The effects on the lungs, heart and brain can be fatal when overuse occurs. Heroin use can lead to respiratory arrest, coma and even death.
