The first complete artificial heart transplant on the West Coast.

Wednesday marks the first total artificial  heart transplant. Tammy Lumpkins 46-years-old  was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy 20 years ago. She went to USC in August because her heart and organs were failing. Two thirds of her own heart were replaced with plastic ones and are hooked up to an air compressor that can be transported in a backpack. The weight of her backpack is only 15 pounds allowing her to be mobile. She can live with the artificial heart for six years while she is on the heart transplant list.
