Gastric Bypass surgery (GBP) has proven to control and cure diabetes
Gastric Bypass not only aids in obesity, but it has been proven that type II diabetes improved glycemic control even before weight loss had occurred. GBP long term effect is positive for resolution of type 2 diabetes and in preventing new cases and insulin resistance improved within 4 weeks and continued to 6 months. The study concluded that GBP significantly changes the degree of diabetes from eliminating the disease to an improved form over short and long term. The changes that take place after postoperative effect the GI peptide release. These peptides affect changes in food intake and glycemic control after GBP surgery.

the bottom line is you need to learn to eat correctly, regardless of what surgery you have done. Too many people cop out on the procedure because they have never ever really tried to succeed with dietary change. This is obviously not the case for everyone.
ReplyDeleteMany people struggle with diabetes and if GBP can eliminate the disease that to me is enough reason to have the surgery. I also think it is up to the MD's to make the final call about if the patient should have the procedure or not. Diet doesn't always work for the obese there may be other underlining problems such as imbalance of hormones, a mental problem such as low self esteem. GBP does not allow the patient to over eat in the beginning and I do think that when the person starts to loose weight they will like the result and want to continue.
